The Metamorphisis

The Metamorphisis

My name is Kevin Cifuentes. I am currently a high school senior at Francis Lewis High School in Queens New York. I am also an individual with a physical disability. I have a twin brother who is also a high school senior, and I have an older brother who is attending his sophomore year in New York University. Although I was born and raised in the United States, my parents were born in Colombia. They wanted a better education for me as well as my brothers, so the immigrated to New York City. I am planning to major in the field of Computer Science. The reason why I want to study about computers is because I think that the certain aspects and functions of computers have not only helped me, but it has benefited society in various ways. I also want to study computers because of my vast knowledge of it. I wish to use this knowledge as an essential tool to help humankind in the future, as well, as to develop innovations that can benefit society and humankind. Although I study a lot on computers as well as other related subjects, I am always highly involved in the activities in my high school. I am currently a member of the senior yearbook staff, I am a peer advisor a group called S.P.A.R.K. (which deals with alcohol awareness, AIDS awareness, and non- – violence resolutions), and I work as an intern in the student government. At my free time I would read, study, as well as socialize with my friends. My hobbies are singing, playing the drums, as well as composing music, and I do computer programming. My interest in computers began when I received my first computer during my years in junior high school. I was fascinated by its complexity and functionality. What amazed me most was how different inanimate objects and circuits with different shapes and sizes are able to perform a vast amount of functions. I was also amazed with the sizes of computers. As they got smaller, they got more powerful. As I gradually developed my knowledge of computers, I knew that this newfound knowledge would help me immensely as I approach to college and my future. In order to maintain this knowledge, I had to learn not just the basics of computers, but I had to learn more in depth computing. In this case, I took a course in Pre – Calculus and another course in BASIC computer programming. I eventually passed both classes and I am now taking Introduction to Calculus. I also took courses in Trigonometry, as well as advanced algebra.

I know that my knowledge of computers will open a lot opportunities as they come to me. And I know that college will be my main tool in order to accomplish these opportunities.
