In Lord of the Flies by William Golding, the young
boys stranded on the island form their own rules
and society. Discuss the evolution of this group
and the results as dictated by the decision they made.
In Lord of the Flies by William Golding, the young
boys stranded on the island formed their own rules
and society. They decided to make one organized
group with Ralph as the appointed chief.
Eventually, the decisions they made caused them to
divide into two opposing tribes, one with Ralph as
the chief, and the other with Jack as chief. The
opposing tribes led them to a society where one
large tribe dominated the island. The decisions
the boys made affected their system of
organization and their plans to be rescued.
The young boys decided to organize themselves into
one group with a leader to their survival from the
island as soon as possible. They elected Ralph as
chief because Ralph blew on a conch that brought
the boys together and organized a society. He
also organized a group of hunters and appointed
Jack as the leader of the hunting group. Ralph
decided to keep a rescue fire going to signal any
passing ships. The fire was made on top of a high
mountain where the smoke could be seen from the
sea. Ralph also organized assigned specific
chores for all of the boys. The decisions that
Ralph made led to disagreements and caused
friction between Jack and himself.
The arguments between Jack and Ralph led to a
break-up of the organized group, resulting in the
formation of Jack?s rival group. There was hatred
and jealousy between Ralph and Jack?s groups.
Jack was jealous of Ralph because Ralph had the
conch and was the chief so Jack got his boys to
hate Ralph. Jack had more than half of the boys
and Ralph only had three. Jack?s tribe hunted and
had fun in a savage manner. They killed pigs and
chanted, ?Kill the beast! Cut his throat! Spill
his blood!? Jack killed one of Ralph?s members and
kidnapped the other two. Jack did not want Ralph
to lead any kind of group so Ralph was left alone.
The decision to form two different tribes
demonstrated their blossoming savagery.
Ralph became an outcast after Jack kidnapped two of
his tribe?s boys and killed another. They killed
Piggy by pushing a rock on him as he fell off a
mountain. Jack kidnapped Ralph?s other two boys
that were with Ralph and left him to be an
outcast. The boys in Jack?s tribe hated Ralph and
did not want him in their tribe. Jack threatened
to kill the two kidnapped boys and made them watch
out for Ralph. Jack and his tribe wanted to look
for Ralph and kill him because they hated him for
being so bossy and making all their decisions.
They became savage-like, chanting and killing in
an inappropriate manner. Jack?s decisions turned
his boys against Ralph, who had become an outcast.
The young boys had good intentions when they came
to the island, but their ill-thought decisions
changed them into savages. They wanted to survive
and organized themselves into a group, but they
became two disorganized tribes, hating and
opposing each other. Ralph became an outcast and
was hated by everyone. They chased and tried to
kill him, but their disastrous decisions led to
the burning of the whole island.
