Historical Background
The Greenpeace organization was formed in 1971 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. It was originally formed to stop nuclear testing in a small island called Amchika in Alaska. A small group of people sailed from Vancouver to Alaska in a small fishing boat determined to stop the testing.
Mandate/Mission Statement
Greepeace�s mission is to stop oil drilling in the ocean, halt the killing of all species (mostly endangered ones), nuclear testing, pollution, and other threatening things to the environment. In other words, their purpose is to create and GREEN and PEACEful environment.
Structure
There are four departments in the Greenpeace Canada structure. These departments are Campaigns, Development, Finance, and the Executive Directors Office.
Campaigns
There are three Greenpeace Canada campaign offices. There is one in Toronto, Ontario, one in Vancouver, British Columbia, and another in Montreal, Quebec.
Development
The department of development organizes all the public education activities and fundraising.
Finance
Finance obviously keeps track and handles all the income and outcome of the organization.
Executive Director�s Office
The Greenpeace Canada Executive Director�s Office is the Canadian communication central to other Greenpeace offices around the world. This office also includes human resources staff and office management.
Funding
Greenpeace receives funding by signing members by mail, phone and door votes. Greenpeace also receives funding from life insurance when some members of the organization die.
