Dream
Through the Darkness
My parents and I were in the airport awaiting our airplane bound for New York. The Airport was full of crying people; relatives and friends bidding their farewells. I was sad myself to be leaving, especially since it was my first time moving from my friends and family whom I have never lived without. I fell asleep on my mothers lap, I knew I had time to sleep because we had been two hours early for our flight. When I woke up my mother was acting strangely and had a distant dazed look in her eyes. I thought that she had just been tired so I left her alone and went to get something to eat.
A few minutes later, I heard my flight being announced over the intercom so I ran to where I had been sitting. My father and I picked up our luggage and we went to join the line. When we finally boarded and took our seats the pilot announced that there were a few minor problems with the engine, which would delay the flight for a couple of minutes.
When the plane finally boarded, the flight attendant offered beverages to the passengers. Two hours after the plane had taken off, I could see outside the window that it had gotten very dark very fast. And it was only 6:00 in the evening. I could see by the cloud cover and the rain outside that we were moving into a storm. The flight was going rather smoothly until out of nowhere there was a sudden jolt, which awoke everyone’s nerves. The pilot and flight attendants assured us that nothing was wrong, but I had seen two many movies to believe that.
“Just a little turbulence,” the pilot nervously uttered over the intercom” Nothing to worry about.”
It started to rain harder outside and there was lighting brightening up the ever-darkening sky. My mother was sitting on the edge of her seat, her eyes wide opened. My father who was no fan of flying himself was trying to calm her down.
“Are you ok miss?” a flight attendant enquired “ would you like something to drink?”
Before my mom could accept or refused her offer there was a sudden explosion on right side of the plane. The cabin went black and smoke poured in. what I think were oxygen masks fell from the ceiling. Cries for help came from all around me. I tried to remember the instructions that I hadn’t paid any attention to at beginning the flight that stewardesses had given us at the beginning of the flight. I gave up on that quickly and concentrated more on screaming at the top of my lungs as our plane plummeted thousands of feet towards the ocean of darkness below us. I think I remember hearing some last minute instructions from the pilot in our last few seconds in the air, but I can’t quite remember what they were.
Then it all ended…
“Flight 1492 to New York now boarding.” I awoke…
